DescriptionThe Central American Collection is one of the Grand Rapids Public Museum's World Cultures Collections. This group of collections strives to make meaningful modern interpretations of "Ethnographic" artifacts, many of which were collected during the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries.
Artifacts in this collection include clothing and textiles, jewelry, weapons, artwork, and objects from everyday life. These objects can only provide a minute sample of the vast diversity of material culture created in Central America. However, they can help expose the ways that museums and communities like ours have interacted with people and artifacts from Central America.
