Fossil, Coral, FIC/ unsigned, undated note saying, This Petoskey Stone was donated by Don Jackson of Bits of Michigan. He's only found several others as big. He donated it to the shop or museum. Does not want it sold. Can return it to him, if we don't want it. Middle Devonian Period - 376-392 mya. Very large specimen, grey and weathered.;Exceptionally large specimen of state fossill. Much larger than any in collection.;Found in the gift shop with note stating: 'This Petoskey stone was donated by Don Jackson of Bits o' Michigan. He's only found several others as big. He donated it to the shop or museum, DOES NOT WANT IT SOLD. Can return it to him if we don't want it.' Web search 2000-09-11 found one listing for 'Bits o' Michigan' at 213 Williams St, Petoskey, MI 49770, 616-347-8217. No Don Jackson listed in Petoskey residential phone listings at that time. It was decided not to try to contact the donor at this time for a gift agreement, but to trust the note and leave it at that.
