Small Quilled Birchbark Canoe

Edged with sweet grass, minimal quilled decoraiton of 2 x's on each side;Typical materials and form for Ottawa tourist art 20th century. Shows adaptation of traditional materials, forms and decorations to new tourist economy. Known to have been purchased at historic Indian owned shop.;Purchased by donor from Fred Ettawageshik's store in Harbor Springs, ca.1944. Converted from 5 year loan to gift, Permanent Collection, approved by A&M April 14, 1999.
