Description:
25 pieced blocks, 7" x 7", are set on point with a 1 1/2" red print sashings between the blocks; 24 of the blocks are signed; all of the fabrics used are reproduction Civil War patterns; a tan, beige and red print fabric is used for the 1/2 blocks around the outside; a 1/2" turned over binding is made of the same red print fabric as the sashing; the backing fabric is a light beige and tan print; a 2 3/4" hanging sleeve is sewn to the top of the back.;This quilt was made by members of the Quilt History Study Group for the Museum's Collection. Through the late 1990s and 2000s this group has provided both financial help and volunteer labor to the Museum to help improve the Quilt Collection. This includes members aiding in the identification, rolling and covering the quilts for proper storage. Sewing hanging sleeves ont he backs of collection items so they can be exhibited. Providing money to build the "Q is for Quilts" exhibit, digital photography and creation of digtal CD. Each of the members that made a block signed it. Some included a date, some their home town and others short sayings. See Curatorial Details section for a written list of names and information taken from the blocks. There are low quality copies of digital pictures of the quilt being held up by several people who made the quilt. These copies are in the accession file.;Each of the blocks is signed by the maker of that block. Some are dated, have hometown listed or include a short sayings . One of the blocks had "the signatures of Judy Jelesema and Judy Bishop with "QHSG, Oct. 1997 est." This is for the Quilt History Study Group which was founded by the two Judy's during the time noted.;The fabric used for this quilt are all Civil War reproduction patterns.;Following is a description of the signature on each block of the quilt.
