This is a bumper sticker from Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign. It bears his campaign logo, the words "Obama '08" and the address for his website.;These types of promotional materials were common sites during the presidential campaign of 2008. Candidates created vast amounts of posters, buttons, bumper stickers, brochures, etc. and distributed them to voters across the country in order to spread their message and to gain supporters. This small collection of material related to Barack Obama's campaign is especially significant because he eventually won the election and became the first African American President of the United States.

Merdzinski, Marilyn
Marilyn Merdzinski was one of the Grand Rapids Public Museum's most influential and longest-serving employees.  She started her career at the GRPM just out of college in 1977 and retired 37 years later in 2015.  During her tenure at the GRPM she held numerous leadership positions in the Collections Department, eventually retiring as the Vice President of Collections.  Among her numerous accomplishments are stewarding the museum's collections safely through several moves, helping to establish the conceptual framework for the new Van Andel Museum Center, becoming a national leader on NAGPRA issues, and helping to found the Museum School.
