Advertising ➔ Pin-back Button, It's Christmas Time At Wurzburg

Identifier:
2009.17.1
Description:
Circular pin-back button, cream background with green lettering and color lithograph of Santa Claus 'head, surrounded by holly. Christmas shopping in downtown Grand Rapids' department stores was an important holiday tradition. Different families developed allegiances to different department stores and now look back nostalgically on the Christmas parades, display windows, and visiting Santa Claus at the various stores. This button may be used to interpret downtown retail and holiday traditions.

This item is significant for its historical association with a downtown Grand Rapids department store. The history of some of Grand Rapids' long-time retailers still resonates today because of the active role these businesses and their owners played in contributing to the development of the city, its economy, arts, and culture.
