Life Magazine, December 19, 1955

One issue of LIFE magazine, almost complete (some pages missing). Features a ten-page illustrated article entitled "The $6 Billion Christmas", that includes an image of the Grand Rapids, Michigan Herpolsheimer's Department Store's Santa Rocket Express monorail train.;Through the LIFE magazine's famous photo-journalist style, this particular single issue of a mid-twentieth century magazine captures the essence of the Christmas-time experience in the United States during this period. The inclusion of a picture of our own local Christmas icon of the day - the Herp's Train - helps underscore the significance and nostalgic power of this old, simply constructed monorail train that is part of the Museum's permanent collection.;Magazine purchased by donor from a yard sale to commemorate the "December 19th" birthday of one of his daughters. Upon closer inspection of the contents of the magazine, he discovered it contain an article about 1955 Christmas shopping season and a color picture of Grand Rapids-own Herpolsheimer's Department Store Santa elevated monorail train.
