This button dress was created by the donor for her Senior Homecoming Dance at Comstock Park High School. She was inspired to create her own unique dress by the button coat in the "O is for Oddities" exhibit at the GRPM. The donor purchased an off-the-rack, black, polyester dress from Nordstrom Rack to serve as the basis for her project. She then spent several months collecting buttons from family, friends, and co-workers. She even placed a wanted ad on Craigslist, as well as visiting numerous garage sales. The completed dress has about 1,500 buttons and weighs over 6 pounds. The week before the dance, the donor had to have the dress altered with an additional strap and reinforced zipper to support the additional weight and to keep the dress from falling off. Not a single button fell off during the dance.
