Archival Collection #036 - Civil War is a compilation of materials that were acquired over the course of the Museum's history. These materials document the important role that Michigan played in the Civil War (1861-1865). Its support of the Union was enthusiastically offered and gratefully received as seen in the documentry evidence found in this collection. There are hundreds of materials in this collection that include: letters, diaries, official documents, ballads, circulars, newspaper articles, books, rosters, railroad passes, photographic prints, drawings and other civil war-related papers. The Museum collection also contains three-dimensional artifacts from the period that relate to the soldiers who were fighting in the Civil War. The size and scope of the collection is extensive and ranges in dates from around 1861-1865.
