This collection consists of the legal documents, business papers, and trade account book of Amos Roberts and William D. Roberts, roughly dating to the second half of the 19th century. A small amount of material relating to their families is also present. Most of the collection relates geographically to Michigan, although a significant number also pertains to Illinois and New York. Amos moved to Grand Rapids in 1838 with his wife Sally Hurd and family. Upon arrival, they established a general assortment store and in the following year, he made his son, William D. Roberts, a partner in the business.
