Quartz is a silicate and is one of the most abundant minerals found on continental rocks. There are many different types of quartz such as amethyst, tiger's eye, rose quartz, and smoky quartz. This specimen is porcelain quartz, a rare variety and contains schorl, the most common variety of tourmaline.
