Joseph Griswold was born in Eaton County Michigan in 1842 . When the Civil War started he joined the 2nd Michigan Cavalry as a Musician in October 1861 and resigned in August 1862. He reenlisted in 1864 as an assistant Surgeon with the reorganized 4th Michigan Infantry and was appointed full Surgeon January 1866 which he served until May of 1866. Dr. Griswold married Mary Barnet Wisner in 1868 and moved to Taylors Falls Minnesota where a son and daughter were born. The family moves to Grand Rapids Michigan by 1880 where Griswold lives until he dies in 1915. Joseph is buried in Oakhill cemetery in Grand Rapids Michigan.
