Description:
Likely a clay stein made from a mold of an eathenware master stein design. Pewter lid and thumblift have scrolling foliage designs. The stein is multi-colored with large color sections of orange-yellow, wine and turquoise. There is a scene of a man in uniform drinking out of a stein and a woman standing facing him who is holding a stein. The woman wears a high-collar rose colored dress and a long white apron. On the wall of the establishment they are in is a plaque.;Trink ich wa(??)er (?)o (?)terb ich, Trink ich Bier (?)o ver derb ich. / Drum i(?)t be(??)er Bier geh: u. verdorben Uls Wa(??)er getr. n. ge(?)torben. / Grescho(??)stube der Division. (plaque on the wall.) / Die dur(?)tigeDrdonanz (marking below the image of the man and woman.) The German has yet to be translated but the first two phrases are on the topic of what happens to the author of the writing when he drinks. |
