The term schuetzen comes from German shooting societies, called schuetzenverein. German immigrants established schuetzen in America. This custom-built, German-made target rifle is typical of the type, with a double set trigger and a highly shaped butt to fit around the shooter's shoulder and under the armpit. A percussion action muzzleloader, it has a constant depth ramrod, marked with measurements so the gun can be loaded and fired predictably.
