These drawers, also known as knickers after 1910, are made of cotton and have embroidery and drawnwork at the leg openings. There is a drawstring closure at the back of the waist as well as button closures on the side of the waist. The crotch is also open. Earlier versions of women's drawers had an open crotch for hygiene purposes. It was possible that once a corset was put on, drawers were unable to be pulled down so the crotch was left unsewn.
