Archival Collection #115 - Grand Rapids City Hall contains documentary artifacts that were placed inside the Grand Rapids City Hall cornerstone under construction in 1885 plus additional objects that pertained to the construction, dedication, and final preservation attempts.
On September 9, 1885, the City of Grand Rapids held a celebration for the laying of the cornerstone at the new City Hall on Lyon Street. Events included a parade, speeches, and a Masonic ritual. The objects in this collection were chosen in 1885 to represent the city and its citizens to future generations.
