This square piece of hardtack is a significant piece within the collection as it an example of the simple, inexpensive and long-lasting food staples that have been used on expeditions and during military campaigns. This particular piece is of particular note as it was carried during the Spanish-American War. The hardtack has the letters "DKC" on the top and is in very good shape. It was secured at Camp Alger, near Washington.
