Description:
Marble is a metamorphic rock formed when limestone is exposed to high temperatures and pressures. Calcite recrystallizes in the process and the different colors of marble are caused by the impurities of the calcite. It is often used for construction and sculpture. This particular specimen is pink, purple, gray, and white and is polished. It was found in Spain and was donated by A. J. Saffer.
