Beer  ➔ Sign, Grand Rapids Brewing Company

Identifier:
1996.31.1
Description:

Rectangular painted wooden sign with white and gold writing on a red background. Black decorative lines underscore and separate words. Sign reads, 'Grand Rapids Brewing Co.'s Famous Beers on Draught.'

This record was updated 10-18-2006 with information provided by Sheila Redick, Elmira, New York, a granddaughter of William Ronan, who owned the bar where the sign was displayed. The bar was located at the corner of Plainfield Ave. and Spencer St. Circa 1909, the saloon was moved two storefronts up from the corner, which today is 1410 Plainfield Ave. The saloon did not close during prohibition as the owner converted it to a billiards parlor.

When the bar was no longer in operation or torn down, the sign was put in the seller's husband's family's barn, cut in half for shelves.
