Description:
Archival Collection #090 - Charles Verrell/Grand Rapids Blow Pipe & Dust Arrester Company consists of correspondence, patent documents, contracts, bills and receipts, schematics, sales materials and photographs relating to the Grand Rapids Blow Pipe and Dust Arrester Company. The collection also includes a tin lock box and tin document canister.

The collection documents the origins, establishment and operation of a manufacturing business which was an important satellite of the Grand Rapids furniture industry. Much of the machinery which the Museum salvaged from the Forslund Furniture Factory was equipped with ventilation ductwork by Grand Rapids Blow Pipe and Dust Arrester Company.

It may logically be divided into two sections: documents relating to Sewall Brackett & Co. of Saccarappa, Maine, where Verrell was employed from at leaset 1874 to 1889; and documents relating to the Grand Rapids Blow Pipe and Dust Arrester Co. of Grand Rapids, Michigan which he began on or around 1890.

Charles F. Verrell was part owner of Sewall Brackett & Co., dealers in stoves, tranges, furnaces and tin ware in Saccarappa, Maine, from at least 1874 to 1889. IN or around 1890 he began the Grand Rapids Blow Pipe and Dust Arrester Co. with F.A. Rickard and Gideon Barstow, after relocating in Grand Rapids. The company was primarily a manufacturer and installer of dust collecting and ventilation systems in factories. The company out-lasted Verrell and continued operation under the same name until 1945.
