Marlin Firearms website masthead reads: "Long Live the Lever Gun." And certainly for 150 years the company has carved an impressive niche in the realm of lever action rifles for the American sportsman. In 1870, a former Colt employee, John M. Marlin set out to try his skills at manufacturing his own revolvers and derringers. He enjoyed moderate success until his death at the start of the 20th century, leaving the company in the hands of his sons. Like their contemporaries, the Marlin family was called upon for the production of military weapons for the First World War, in their case, machine guns. In the early 2000's the company was purchased by Remington, who continued to manufacture sporting firearms under the same name.
