Watches and Clocks ➔ Placard Stand For First Electric Watch, 1957

Identifier:
130444
Description:
Hamilton Watch Company introduced the world's first battery-powered electric watch. This object is the movement of a 1957 Hamilton watch, which came in a variety of modern case styles. Before battery power, watches were driven by a mainspring that had to be wound regularly. Hamilton stopped producing these watches by 1969, when more reliable quartz movements made it obsolete.
