Archival Collection #127 - Kokx, Dytkiewicz And Buzalski Families, Grand Rapids Polish-American is comprised of a wide range of materials that relate to the Polish ethnicity of the citizens of Grand Rapids. The objects gathered together and incorporated into this collection were either passed down through families or collected in current times. The collection helps to illustrate the strong religious, cultural and social customs, as well as business relationships, that began with the first Polish immigrants to Grand Rapids and continues yet today.This collection contains: reproductions of documents and photographs which originally dated from 1882 through 1939. It includes items related to the Polish-American Dytkiewicz and Buzalski families of Grand Rapids and was assembled by granddaughter Delores Kokx. She provided the Museum with reproductions of the originals, she still owns the originals. The collection contains three documents related specifically to Casimir Dytkiewicz: an 1882 German language immigration paper; an 1890 Declaration of Intention to become a US citizen and an 1892 Naturalization certificate. There are four photographs related to the Dykiewicz family: Casimir's (1865 - 1941) and Kazmiera Smolinski's (1866 - 1931) wedding photograph ca. 1885; Casimir, Kazmiera and two children ca. 1905; Casmir working at a lathe at the Porter Machinery Co.; and Casimir in his barbershop at 714 Bridge Street ca. 1935. There are three photographs related to the Buzalski family: Michal Buzalski (1872 - 1934) and Marya Walczewski (1872 - 1905) wedding photo ca. 1895: Michal, Marya and two children ca. 1905; and Michal and Marya ca. 1930.
