Archival Collections ➔ Archival Collection #221 - The Blossom Family

Identifier:
2008.29.1
Description:
This collection contains materials collected by the Blossom family, most of which relate to their involvement with local Native Americans. The collection features a scrapbook of photographs and newspaper clippings put together by the Blossom family. There are also separate clippings from area newspapers of articles related to the family or Native Americans. The collection contains numerous photographs of the Blossom family, often dressed in Native American costumes, as well as a few pieces of ephemera. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, as the American Indian Movement swept across the United States, the Blossom family of Hudson, Michigan became very involved in Native America affairs in this area. Although the Blossoms were white, they participated extensively in local gatherings, pow-wows, and other cultural events. They were members of the Grand Valley American Indian Lodge, and their children recall traveling all around the country each summer to participate in various Native American events.
