Description:
Rectangular woven fabric panel depicts a Japanese woman, possibly a geisha, looking at her image in an oval mirror. The style is very similar to the style of wood block prints that were popular in Japan at the same tie. The woman wears a lavender kimono with a hot pink collar. She has a metallic gold comb in her hair.;Acquired by the donor's Aunt, Tekla Nelson, while she was housekeeper for Thomas J. O"Brien. O'Brien, a Grand Rapids lawyer, was appointed U.S Minister to Denmark (1905- 1907), U.S. Ambassador to Japan(1907 -1911) and U.S. Ambassodor to Italy (1911 -13). Nelson accompanied O'Brien and his family to Denmark and Japan.
