An example of a Heath "kit" product made in Benton Harbor, Michigan. The Heath Company made modern electronic devices as kits, and sold them to consumers who assembled them themselves. These types of kits were an extremely popular hobby in the mid twentieth century. Heathkits were considered high quality products, and could be had for significantly less money than a pre-assembled product of the same type.
