Its historical and cultural significance is dervied from its connection to the Cold War period in American History. This primary source doucment from 1955 illustrates exactly what the United States military wanted their officers to believe about their Soviet enemies. Reading this type of propaganda is one way to understand how a cold war mindset was propagated among Americans by their government.
