Description:
This poster by the Canadian publishing company, Archar Inc. was a "City Design Print" also referred to by the company as a "character print" that was created of Grand Rapids in 1973. In a cheerful, cartoon style, it highlights important buildings, businesses and features across the city in their general vicinity. During this period of time, Grand Rapids was nearing the close of the urban renewal period and one can see the Old City Hall building for instance has been replaced with the new building and the Calder. This poster captures a moment in time with historical information about the city during the 1970s. Not long after there would be great changes to downtown businesses, with many closing down by the 1990s.
