Photographs ➔ Photograph, 753-757 Eastern Avenue SE

Identifier:
178004
Description:
The photograph depicts a grocery and hardware store at the northwest corner of Eastern Avenue SE and Martin Luther King Street SE (forrmerly Franklin, also Fifth). The address was initially 1183 S. East , but was changed to 753-757 Eastern Avenue SE. The identification on the reverse says, "Luce's Hall occupied by S.S. & Church from Nov. 13 1892- Nov. 12, 93". This is not the building generally referred to as Luce's Hall, which was downtown, but instead one that was occupied by grocer Hiram G. Luce in the 1890s.  Later the building was run as the John Oom Hardware Company. The building was still in existence in 2022, although a commercial facing has changed the look drastically.
