Description:
The photograph depicts an unidentified delicatessen-style meat market. The sheer amount of available meat product is astounding. 16 beef halves hang on hooks on the right. Numerous ham and turkey and other fowl hang from the center rack above the wood paneled service counter. Sausages, bologna, decoratively molded pates, and sliced meats are on the counter.  

Evergreen branches festoon the rack over the service counter.  Numerous scales are hanging from the ceiling. The floor of the store is covered in decorative tile. 

"We cure our hams, shoulders, bacon and dried beef" is written on the sign on the back wall.

Later in life he would serve as Senior Vice President and Legal Counsel for the Trust Department of the Michigan National Bank and as a board member and president of the Grand Rapids Public Museum.
