This six-piece uniform is a Service A (Alpha) uniform from the United States Marine Corps of the United States Armed Forces. It was worn by Lt. Col. Robert E. Swietek during the Vietnam War in 1969.This uniform, which was worn during the winter, is made of dacron polyester and wool and is comprised of six pieces that include a green coat, green trousers, a khaki long-sleeve shirt, a khaki tie, a tie clasp, and a belt. It is accompanied by garrison cap 2022.131.2.1. The coat features Marine Corps devices on the lapels and silver oak leaves on the epaulets signifying the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. A nametag on the proper right breast reads "Swietek" and the proper left breast displays the following bars and medals: Aviator Badge, Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation, Pistol Expert Qualification Badge, and Rifle Expert Qualification Badge. The collar of the shirt also features silver oak leaves.

Robert E. Swietek (donor)Lt. Col. Robert E. Swietek was commissioned into the United States Marine Corps in 1969 as a 2nd Lieutenant after graduating from the University of Illinois. He went to flight school in Pensacola where he graduated as a Naval Aviator in July 1970. After graduation, he was sent to Camp Pendleton until November 1970 when he was deployed to Futenma, Okinawa in the 1st Marine Aircraft wing. Upon his return in September 1971, he was assigned to the 2nd Marine Aircraft wing in North Carolina as a security officer for crypto-material. After being released from active duty in November 1973, he joined the Marine Corps reserve, serving in Rochester, New York until 1984 when he moved to Coopersville, Michigan. The United States Marine Corps, also known as USMC, is a service branch of the United States Armed Forces specializing in amphibious and expeditionary warfare. The USMC is responsible for operating installations on land and amphibious warfare ships around the world. It was founded as the Continental Marines in 1775, during the American Revolutionary War. After the war, the marines disbanded due to lack of funding. On July 11th, 1798 the institution was reestablished by the United States Congress. On June 30th, 1834 it became an asset of the United States Department of the Navy. The USMC is the smallest service branch of the Department of Defense, working closely alongside the United States Navy on several tactical aviation squadrons throughout the world. In addition, they also operate from inside many Navy aircraft carriers serving as a valuable asset both at sea and on land.
