Description:
Circular man's hat consisting of black horsehair. The has has a high crown and two chin ties.;This is an example of a Korean gat, traditionally worn by Korean men prior to the late 19th century. they were worn to protect the topknot. the gat is tradtionally made of black horsehair on a bamboo frame. It was generally restricted to men who had passed the civil service examiniation; commoners wore a hat of a similar design woven from grass called a paeraengi.;transfer to the Education Collection for use in the Newcomers Headwear Culture Kit.
