Firearms ➔ U.S. Remington Model 1917 Rifle

Identifier:
L5798
Description:

Manufactured by the Remington Arms Company for the U.S. military during the First World War. The M1917 was the most common firearm issued to the American Expeditionary Force. It was adopted as an alternative to the M1903 Springfield rifle and proved to be very reliable. Based off of the British Pattern 1914 rifle which American Arms manufacturers produced for the British military during the First World War. The M1917 was rechambered and rebarreled to fire the American 30-06 springfield cartridge. There were three manufacturers of the M1917, Remington-Eddystone, Remington, and Winchester. This particular example was manufactured by the Remington Arms Company. It saw refurbishment after World War One and has a parkerized finish as well as a "R/38" marked barrel. The receivers serial number puts this example as being manufactured in 1918.
