The barrel on this example does not have a makers mark present but it is of an octagon design. As were a majority of the percussion half stocks made during the mid 1800s. This rifle features a brass spurred trigger guard, similar to European percussion hunting/sporting rifles. There are decorative inlays in both the left side of the buttstock and the wrist of the stock. The lock is marked “MANTON” which was a London based company known for high end sporting rifles and shotguns.
