Identifier:
2000.48.3a-b
Description:
This pink knit polyester ensemble consists of a halter-top and floor-length A-line skirt. It has geometric designs throughout. The top has three buttons down the center front and a white cotton interior lining. The matching skirt has a button closure on the center back as well as a CC zipper. Features that are indicative of the 1970s are the halter top, the geometric designs, and the vibrant color. This ensemble was made and worn by the donor.    This outfit is very typical of the popular style of clothing worn by females during the decade of the 1970s. The outfit was made of a newly developed polyester fabric known as double knit. It became very popular for a short period of time due to its ability to launder easily. As fashions became more casual and social taboos regarding the display of female form loosened, halter style tops and bare midriffs became popular with teens and younger women.
