Description:
This brown dress is made of rayon and has a belt at the waist. The neck is decorated with seashells and rhinestones. There is a pocket on the proper right side of the waist that is also decorated with seashells and rhinestones. This dress has long, narrow sleeves with metal Talon zippers on the cuffs. There is also a metal Talon zipper at the back of the neck. This dress has an interior label that reads "Arthur Weiss Miniature". Features that are indicative of this time period are the belted waist, the sleeve zippers, and the zipper at the neck.

Talon International, Inc., sometimes referred to as Talon Zipper was founded in Chicago in 1893 as the Universal Fastener Company. The company moved to Meadville, Pennsylvania and thrived in the zipper business, due to being the first zipper manufacturing company. In 1968 the company was acquired by Textron and faced many difficulties. The Japanese company YKK was also producing quality zippers but for less money which caused the company's market share to fall to 35% by 1981. In 1981, the company was sold to Nucor Holdings. Production was moved to Mexico but the company still suffered. In 1996 the Universal Fastener Company was acquired by Tag-It-Pacific. Production moved to Asia and in 2007 the company name was changed to Talon International, Incorporated.  Arthur Weiss and Company (creator)

Arthur Weiss and Company was founded around 1914 in Chicago, Illinois by Arthur Weiss. The company produced women's fashion and by 1923 it was one of the largest dress making companies in the Middle West with locations in Chicago and New York. Arthur Weiss and Company merged with G.M. Piermont and Company. In 1942 Weiss passed away and the company was liquidated in 1955.
