Description:
This black hat is made of felt and has a net overlay. There are feathers decorating the top and a matching hat pin on the crown. The interior sweatband is made of black petersham ribbon and there is an elastic band on the underside to help hold the hat into place. There are also labels that read "Scherman, Fifth Avenue, New York" and "Leocadia Jones, Grand Rapids".

Mrs. Joseph C. Foust was involved with the Eastern Michigan University Library in 1966.  Leocadia Jones (sold by)

Leocadia Jones was born in 1892 and was a prominent hatmaker in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She started her business at Friedman-Spring Dry Good Company in 1925 and a year later she opened her own shop at 24 Sheldon Avenue Southeast. In 1927 Leocadia's shop moved to 8 Jefferson Ave Southeast. She stayed in business until 1956 when her husband, John Jones, passed away. Leocadia and John had a daughter Margaret who was born in 1923. Leocadia passed away on October 20th, 1961.
