Description:
This black wool suit consists of a jacket and skirt. The jacket has a velvet collar with wool lapels. The long sleeves are gathered at the shoulders and have folded cuffs that are trimmed with elaborate ribbon. The same elaborate trim can be seen on the front and back of the jacket. There are black celluloid buttons down the center front of the jacket. Features that indicate this suit is from the 1870s are the mannish tailoring, the lapels, and the slight bustle.
