Description:
This black silk dress has a floral pattern embroidered into the fabric. There is lace trim on the standing collar as well as on the shoulder caps, sleeve cuffs, and on the front of the boned bodice. The same lace can be seen on the back of the bodice across the shoulders. There are large puffs on the shoulders of the sleeves and ruching at the waistline of the bodice. The skirt waistline has cartridge pleats. Features that are indicative of the 1890s are the narrow waist, the boned bodice, the slight hourglass silhouette, and the standing collar.
Based on the style, color, and time period this dress may have worn during mourning.
