Description:

This helmet is a variation of the Stahlhelm and is a three-piece gladiator helmet worn by members of the Luftschutzwarndienst during World War II. It is made of steel and has a leather chinstrap and beaded edge. The front of the helmet displays the Luftschutz insignia. 

The Stahlhelm, which is German for 'steel helmet' was a steel combat helmet created by Dr. Friedrich Schwerd as a replacement to the Pickelhaube. It was introduced in 1916 and saw many design changes throughout the 1900s until it was replaced in 1992 with the Gefechtshelm.

The Luftschutzwarndienst (LSW) was also known as the Luftschutz. It was an organization of German civilians that were responsible for alerting the population of impending air attacks. The organization was active during World War II.
