World War II ➔ Military Uniform

Identifier:
2016.13.1
Description:
This seven-piece winter service uniform is from the United States Army Nurse Corps of the United States Army. It was worn by Hazel Nyblade of Sparta, Michigan during World War II.

The uniform is made olive drab material and is comprised of seven pieces that include a coat, a skirt, a blouse, a necktie, a scarf, service cap number 2016.13.1.1 and garrison cap number 2016.13.1.2. The coat has three service stripes on the proper left sleeve near the cuff and there is also a patch on the proper left shoulder that represents the United States Army Pacific. The right sleeve has a patch on the shoulder that represents the European Theater of Operations. There are medical nurse corps insignias on the lapel as well as U.S. insignias. This coat has epaulets with the rank of Captain and there are ribbons on the proper left breast that are as follows: European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Middle, Army of Occupation Medal, American Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. See the detailed photo of ribbons.

Although this uniform was donated with all seven pieces together, it is unlikely that the necktie and blouse were worn with the rest of the uniform. They are not standard issue and do not match what would have been worn with a winter uniform from the United States Army Corps during World War II.
