Description:
This floral brocade ensemble consists of a coat and a shift dress. The coat has seven rhinestone buttons on the center front and pockets at the waist. It has a flat collar, a silk interior lining, and a label that reads "Lot 2, Size 14". The matching shift dress has a round neckline and short sleeves. There is a Scovill zipper down the center back and an interior label that reads "Nat Kaplan, New York". Features that are indicative of the 1960s are the matching coat, the straight line shift dress, and the center back zipper.

Mary Kindel was born in 1907 and married Thomas Kindel in 1930. Thomas Kindel and his brother owned Kindel Furniture Company which was founded by their father Charles. Mary was involved with many organizations and was one of the founders of the first Planned Parenthood facilities in Grand Rapids. Nat Kaplan Incorporated was a dress manufacturing company founded in 1935 by Nathan Kaplan in New York. When Kaplan passed away in 1956, his wife Sylvia and his son Richard took over the business and ran in until it closed around 1986.
